I'm Nicholas. A designer living in Omaha, NE.

This guy. This guy knows what he’s talking about.

In a design sense, I think this is definitely true. Either someone has no idea at all what they want, or they think they do. Either way, as a designer, when you show them is when they know.

Sure, people can have an idea of where they want something to go, but not what they want it to look like when it gets there. I believe that is what a designer does. They give you something to look at once the journey is over. So, if you don’t let them do what they’re best at, then you traveled a long way for something that you could’ve seen where you started.

Paula Scher once said she felt her hands had been cut off when she started designing with a computer. I can not relate to that, as I started designing with a computer. However, it feels as if I’m missing something of myself when I’m not allowed to work. When I’m not allowed to think and create. Instead of just doing, I want to be able to form, build, deconstruct and reconstruct everything in the end product. Not simply be a hired gun who acts only when given orders. I want to be allowed to roam and bring something back that can only be obtained when someone is allowed to step away. That someone is the designer.
